Ranebennur 600 BRM - Hexing The Hex

This is a summary of the 600 Km brevet ride to Ranebennur done on Jun 22-23, 2013.
Ride distance was 600 km, done in 36 hours . Home to home was 650 Km in 41 hours with no sleep at all.

Daunting ride ahead, my longest one till date, the 0x258 (Hex) to Ranebennur
Started in the wee hours, 15 riders including from Pune,Chennai and Coimbatore
Tips from Chiddu , watch out for the deadly headwind beyond Hiriyur
Slog it out in the first half, and then you can take it easy for Sure

Quick Dash to Sira 8:30 AM, 120 done, Hearty Breakfast to eat
No aches and pains, Life looking all rosy and neat
After the break came the forecasted headwind
Reaching Hiriyur at 11:30 at a moderately paced grind

Post noon, head and sidewind, bleak surroundings ,blazing sun in the sky
Meandering along, alone and bored, the miles really did not fly
Nearing Chitradurga neatly signposted, "Welcome to the City of Forts"
The (dis)gusting winds and steep climb (avg 5 kmph) made it "Chitradurga- The City of Ef-Forts"

Another welcome break at 3, had a late lunch
The crisp benne dosa packed a mean punch
No sign of other riders so got on the saddle again
To be greeted by occasional flurries of rain

Enroute Davanagere, yonder, flash of blue , traveling at the speed of light,
Few seconds later, lo and behold, Kartikeyan , pedaling with all his might
Sun was out, slowly the Golden evening turned to dark night
Broken roads and bumpy bridges, Ranebennur not coming into sight

Finally rolling slowly into Ranebennur, as the clock struck Ten
Eagerly anticipating Drop Bag (in Support car), Hot food and riding company again
Curious Incident of the Support Car in the Nighttime - What did it do -Nothing- Holmes Fans Anyone?
Double whammy, was told the trailing riders were too far, so company was likely none

Desperate call to Ashwini, his agreeing to wait for me was a big boon
Dropping dinner and rest, sprinting back to the highway to catch him soon
Nearing the witching hour, with occasional glimpses of Perigee Supermoon
Paranthas, Pulao and Egg Bhurji at a Dhaba nearly made me swoon

Fed and rested, and tail wind assisted
Amidst interesting conversations,The Climbs were easily crested
Chitradugra at 3 Am, Hiriyur 6 am the miles went fast
8:30 saw us at Kamat for our well deserved Breakfast

Rode with 1000 K guys Sandeep,Kalpesh, and Arvind 300k post the meal
The remaining century ride to the end was a simple deal
Languidly pedaling along, with plenty of snack  breaks
Sandeep telling us about the magic box and the amazing stuff it takes

End Control CCD was the usual party
Another late lunch which was hearty
Next few days office commute ride was not too difficult to Pedal
But it was completely BOTS - Bums OFF the Saddle (ouch!)
