Conquering Chitradurga : 400 Km Brevet Ride Report - With Poetic License
The Chitradurga 400 Km Brevet is a ride quite far
Bike inspected, Card stamped, languidly munching a Snickers Bar
Vasu to a Scrawny Gent - "Sire, perchance did you get the wrong Bike" ?
Quoth 'SingleSpeed' Rajni "Testing (Torturing) myself is what I really Like" !
4 Pm on the Dot , Vasu,Arvind,Sreepathi,Nirmal flagged 23 of us off
To their enthusiasm to help us ride , in gratitude, my helmet I doff
With Admonitions from Sree- Motor Vehicles do not draft
Follow the road rules, Ride safe, Pacelining is an allowed craft
9 pm and persistently loud grumbling from the Tummy
Stopped at Kamat for a long Dinner that was yummy
Back on the road, the night had become quite chill
To keep going, we had to summon our strongest will
It got colder, fingers and nose became numb soon
Consolation was the amazing view, lit up nicely by the full moon
With the firmament bedecked by many a bright star
We Got to Hiriyur Control by the Witching Hour
Ashok,Chirag,Kalpesh and I pacelined to enjoy the Aerodynamics
Chatting along on myriad topics including brevets Social Dynamics
On the distant hills there appeared some Twinkling lights
By 2 am we had the Chitradurga Windmills in our Sights
Found the Chitradurga Control ATM , got our slip
At the Bus Stand ,Hot Chai to beat the winter Nip
On the road, now feeling the increasing strain
5 Am , steady pedaling saw us back at Hiriyur Again
By Dawn we were tired , the pace got Piddly
7 am , desperately seeking Kamats steaming Idly
Another nice round of well deserved Hogging
And back on the saddle(ouch!) for the final slogging
Rolling climbs and the steaming sun
The last stretch did not seem that much fun
Somehow managed to go at a steady crawl
Ending at 13:42 in the ugly urban Hesarghatta Sprawl
The ride came to an end and I realized the body was all sore
No regrets though, I would honestly say "Yeh Dil Maange More."
