Bangarapet 200 Km Brevet Ride : Two Meals Too Much To Munch

The Highlight of the Bangarapet 200 BRM on 17th Nov was the fueling strategy. I had carried Electral/Chikki,Nuts etc as usual, but for the first time on a Brevet ride , I did not use any of the stuff, and was happy that I still did not face any cramping etc. Also the first brevet ride that I did not keep track of the control open and close timings, knowing that the ride is a reasonably easy paced one, and the last bit is actually mostly downhill.

Two Meals
1 Breakfast @Malur with Mudit, Purshottam - This must be the best Idli I have had after Jayarams closed - We kept eating the hot fluffy idlis till the guy ran out of idlis, then switched to Lemon rice which was not as good, and that ended the feast.
2 Lunch @ Kamat -With Mudit - Did full justice to the Thali meal, consequently the next couple of hours on the Highway were very sluggish.

Two Funny Incidents
1 Arvind told us (at the end control around 5:50 pm) that Amit and Chiddu will close the Chikka Tirupati Control at 6 and then come to the end point. At 5:59 we see Chiddu steaming in on his MTB.
New Chiddu (~ Rajnikant) joke: Chiddu rides so fast after closing the intermediate control that he reaches the end point before the Intermediate control closes.
2 Two school kids on their cycles challenged me to a "race" and then when they won, they were really happy, till one of them braked too hard and toppled over, causing a lot of entertainment for their friends who were looking on.

Two New Things on the Bike
1 DIY Top tube Bag- Created a Top tube bag using an old Camera case and a few Velcro strips. It came very handy, with the cue sheet folded and fastened at the top to read at a glance. Will write up the DIY instructions if anyone interested.
2 Chain - The old chain was a bit rusty, picked up a new one @BOTS on friday and installed it (which led to some "during the ride" learning)

Two Learnings
1 Eating properly and adding a dash of extra salt at meal breaks is good enough, no need to supplement with Electral/Gatorade etc. Of course this will not work for speed demons who want to end the ride quickly.
2 Dont install new stuff the last day - I had measured the chain length using the venerable Sheldon Browns method, but looks like I erred on the side of caution, and left a couple of extra links, causing the chain to skip on the rear extreme sprockets. Luckily this route had no serious climbs, so managed without forcing the chain or causing any damage to the sprockets.

Two Scenic stretches
1 The Railway crossing with the deep U at Tekal with its thik stand of Eucaluptus trees, and the small rock formations just beyond it is very spectacular.
2 The sunrise at the initial stretch, with rolling farmland before Hosur , it was almost meditation on wheels.

Two Painful ones
1 Riding back home in the saturday evening traffic was the worst part of the entire day.
2 The Kolar-Hoskote stretch under the hot mid-day sun and headwinds was not particularly enjoyable either.

Two Snack breaks
1 Bananas @ Baglur with Pradeep , Mudit
2 Coconut Water @ Kolar with Rafi,Ravi,Mudit
